Fine Art Reproduction of Original Mixed Media Artwork: Watercolor, Acrylic Medium, Pastel over Monotype on Strathmore Paper
"I truly enjoyed your art show and can't wait to hang the poppies piece." - Karen D., Glen Rock NJ
As summer winds down in the Northeast, I delight in the mature flowers making a final push to show off their blooms before the season ends. "Red Poppies and Goldenrod" started off as a black and white monotype onto which I applied color using a variety of watermedia. Scattered blobs (a technical term!) and dots add texture and movement to this representational abstract; you can feel the vibrant red flowers dancing in the breeze! An ode to optimism and joy!
Here is a short video that discusses different media options. Questions? Reach out directly at egilbeez@gmail.com
The foundation of "Red Poppies and Goldenrod" is a monotype which is a form of printmaking that creates one-of-a-kind images. First I apply black etching ink onto a metal plate using a variety of tools and solvents. I then transfer the image onto printmaking paper using a printmaking press. When done I have a black and white image (now reversed) onto which I carefully apply color making sure to maintain the integrity of the underlying monotype. Lately, I have been experimenting with layering water-based media onto oil-based media. This creates tension such that the layers vibrate against each other producing interesting blobs and ripples of pigment that pop against the black ink.
