My first celebrity portrait! "Toonces, The Cat Who Could Drive A Car." was a recurring skit on SNL from 1989 - 1993. Toonces in life was a beloved pet named Tyrone. I was commissioned to paint his memorial portrait as a surprise gift for his human companion. My challenge was not knowing what Toonces looked like from the neck down so I had to use my expert knowledge of tabby cat markings (thank you Buddy, Mia, Stevie et al) to portray his body.

Capturing the personality of the cat or dog is the goal for my pet portraits. I also incorporate additional details that are relevant to the animal whether it be home furnishings, a favorite toy or a reference to their favorite activity. For Toonces (aka Tyrone), I incorporated his block letter logo, the NBC peacock and a retro driving wheel that suggests a halo and wings in front of a blazing sunset.
Technically it is still summer but the holidays will be here before you know it so now is the time to contact me for commissions which take 3 - 4 months from creation to delivery. All pet portraits include a $50 donation in your name to The Spayed Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to solving dog and cat overpopulation in the Philadelphia area and beyond.
