Emily Gilman Beezley

Raised in Jackson Heights, NY

Lives & works in Manasquan, NJ

Artist Statement: Exploring a wide range of subjects from figurative expressionistic paintings to representational abstracts, I am driven to capture ephemeral light whether it be artificial stage lighting, the precise moment the sun descends below the horizon or the effect of sunlight filtered through a green canopy. Many of my paintings are inspired by a recurring dream of epic proportions featuring tidal waves and threatening skies. A common thread throughout my body of work is a bold color palette relying heavily on cadmium red, Prussian blue and viridian. How viewers react to these color choices and symbolic elements further informs my artwork.

Gilman Beezley’s use of color is vivid and extraordinary, at once reminiscent of the great 19th Century impressionists, while proffering a unique surreal beauty that is imaginative and contemporary. -Bruce W., San Francisco, CA

My wife and I had been searching for the right piece to tie our family room together. Once we saw "And the Water Shall Rise" in Onancock, neither of us could stop thinking about it — it had to come home. The vivid colors and toeing of the line between reality and dreams in the work makes us both happy every time we see it. - Charlie S., Norfolk, VA

Gilman Beezley is an extraordinary talent.  She can bring a subject to life in amazing ways.  We are proud owners of both a commissioned work of our beloved dog and a beautiful painting of ballerinas. Highly recommend! -Megan B., Sarasota, FL

“What I like most about Emily‘s art is her versatility. I have purchased four pieces from her, and each one is so unique and different in style you would hardly even guess they were from the same artist.” - Amy P., Denville, NJ

The painting came! And it’s even more beautiful in person! I love it. Thank you. -Trity D., Toronto, CA

We just received the painting and couldn’t be happier and more impressed with your talent. For now we all want to look at it every day so it’s going to stay on the mantle until we figure out a perfect spot. -Alden H., Scottsdale, CO

"McDowell Mountains" arrived and I love it. It is hanging above my desk and makes me happy just to look at it. Thank you, -Bill D., Sonoma, CA
